Anton J. Stellywas educated at The Catholic University of America (the only Papally Chartered institution of higher education in the United States) and the George Mason University School of Law , which U. S. News & World Reports consistently ranks as a first tier law school. Prior to entering private legal practice, he had over 10 years experience working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Mr. Stelly specializes in representing men and women in Virginia seeking help with traffic accident, criminal defense, and domestic relations cases. As one of only two practicing criminal defense attorneys with an FBI background, Mr. Stelly is uniquely qualified to provide his clients with some of the best personal and principled legal representation in the Richmond area.
Mr. Stelly’s seminal experiences in the FBI cemented many of his firm convictions about the justice system and cultivated a meticulous attention to detail that he believes prevents his cases from being challenged at a later date. As a law-enforcement agent, he prided himself on seeking the most scientifically accurate evidence before attempting to prove the guilt or innocence of the accused. Mr. Stelly’s strong belief that a person’s reputation and freedom demand the highest ethical and investigational standards has continued on into his work as an attorney. In addition, Mr. Stelly was fortunate to develop an impressive network of law-enforcement agents across the globe, contacts whom he is still able to rely on today for assistance and advice.
George Mason University (GMU) Law School was also a time of great personal growth and reflection for Mr. Stelly. GMU’s Law School was founded by a group of successful attorneys who endeavored to “teach the practice of law the right way”, meaning that students would be instructed on more than just legal theory; they would be given the knowledge and tools they’d need in their day-to-day legal practices. Mr. Stelly’s legal education was thus guided by a GMU law faculty that strove to graduate good, all-around attorneys who could serve the public good.
Mr. Stelly was particularly influenced by the words of his tort law instructor, David Condon, who delivered the memorable words, “as trial lawyers, you must be doubters and question everything in your cases, and not be satisfied with an answer until you are sure you have exhausted all explanation.” This philosophy meshed nicely with Mr. Stelly’s experience in the FBI, strengthening his beliefs in the fair and ethical treatment of individuals under the law.
Today Mr. Stelly strives to put his beliefs into practice every day, and his strong personal convictions are one reason that he personally handles every aspect of his cases instead of relying on clerks or paralegals. By providing personal representation to each and every client, he can ensure that each case is treated with the thoroughness and care that his clients deserve. Mr. Stelly is also the author of several books that provide consumer-focused advice on matters of family and criminal law, which can be obtained by (how to obtain books?)
