Hanover Marijuana Charge to be Dismissed

A client charged with marijuana possession will see his charge dismissed by the Hanover General District Court this Fall -- if he complies with all the terms and conditions imposed by the court -- under Virginia's "first offender" statute for drug possession.

The Commonwealth's Attorney opposed the lenient treatment of the young man because he had a prior misdemeanor conviction for petit larceny, but the veteran judge ruled that only a prior drug conviction can be used to disallow the benefit of the First Offender statute.

Mr. Stelly regularly appears in the courts of the City of Richmond, Henrico County, Chesterfield County, Goochland County, and Hanover County.
