Henrico Grand Larceny Charge Dropped at Preliminary Hearing

A 22-year old construction worker who was charged with grand larceny while in the act of protecting the property of a dying friend, had the charges dropped when the alleged "owners" of the property failed to appear in court.

After thoroughly investigating the case after the charges were filed, it became apparent to me that the "victims" were claiming to be the owners of personal property that actually belonged to the defendant's friend, who had been living in their home, but was then in the hospital and in a coma with no active brain activity.

When this information was conveyed to the true owner's family members, they told the complaining landlords that they were going to testify truthfully, that the property belonged to their dying brother, and not to them.

Apparently afraid of facing perjury charges if they testified, the complaining "victims" did not show up.

Whether giving a false report to police will be lodged against them is uncertain at this time.
