Accident Fatality on I-95 Near Richmond Results in Reckless Driving Charge For Driver Who Fell Asleep
A young Virginia woman charged with reckless driving was "more than pleased" with our efforts in negotiating a plea agreement wherein she entered a guilty plea to improper driving and avoided having a criminal record for reckless driving, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
The defendant was returning to Hanover County from a concert in Hamption Roads early in the morning with two friends. They stopped at a rest area in New Kent County, and as she was preparing to re-enter the I-64 westbound highway from the rest stop, she accelerated too fast. When she realized how fast she was going she slowed, but by then it was too late. A state trooper had clocked her doing 91 mph.
In Virginia, driving at a speed in excess of 80 mph can lead to a reckless driving conviction.
