My boyfriend and I went dancing and had a few drinks. He drank more than I did and I volunteered to drive. He said he was okay but I still wasn't sure about that. We got home safely, but I was really nervous. What should I do if this comes up again?

A: The main thing you need to do is get your priorities straight. You must be strong-willed enough to refuse to ride with your boyfriend (or anyone else) you suspect has had too much to drink. Thinking "woulda, coulda, shoulda" as you are being put into the back of an ambulance after your driver crashes into another car or a tree is something no one wants to go through.

Having a designated driver when you go out to dance or to a party and expect to drink is the best safeguard. However, taking a taxi home is your "fail safe" if everyone in your group has been drinking. Always carry some extra cash when you are out and about so you can get home safely.
