Anabolic Steroids: Possession, Manufacture, and Distributon is Illegal in Virginia and Severely Punished

Athletes often become desperate to remain competitive in their sport and sometimes decide it's worth taking a risk of jail time by using anabolic steroids. In Virginia, the penalty for conviction of manufacturing, possessing with intent to distribute, or selling anabolic steroids is severe. The range of punishment is from 1 year to 10 years in prison.

As it is with other drugs that are controlled substances, many factors may determine guilt or innocence. For instance, ignorance of the illegality of the substance can mitigate against prosecution and/or conviction. Similarly, possession of an amount deemed more likely for personal use rather than sale or distribution to others, can lead to a reduction of the charge and a lesser penalty.
