Williamsburg Lawyer Indicted by Feds

Posted on Dec 03, 2009

A federal grand jury has indicted a Williamsburg attorney accused of loaning himself $3.9 million from the estate of one of his clients and then lying about it.

Federal officials say 79-year-old James Edward Moyler was indicted yesterday on two counts of false declarations in a bankruptcy case and one count of making a false oath in a bankruptcy proceeding.

The indictment says Moyler made false statements in October 2008 and in January 2009 when he failed to list more than $3.9 million in liabilities he owed the estate of Lucille K. Steinhardt and then later lied about it. He was the executor of her estate and loaned himself the money from 2001 through 2005.
